Happy Sesquincentennial Birthday Fort Collins!!
Just try and say that one five times. What exactly is a sesquincentennial birthday you might ask? Why it's only the 150th birthday of Fort Collins! That means this amazingly wonderful city of ours was founded in 1864. For a very quick history lesson, Fort Collins came from the ruins of Camp Collins which was established just outside of LaPorte in 1862 as a military post. After a devastating flood ravaged the area, survivors made their way to what is now known as Old Town and set up a new community called Fort Collins. The military post was abandoned in 1867 but residents stayed and worked hard to lay a foundation to a town that now tops almost every list possible of the "best places to live". Old Town Fort Collins was even the inspiration for Main Street, USA at the Disneyland Park. Yes, it is indeed our own little patch of paradise with lots to do, things to see, places to eat, and especially local music to be heard. This year will be exceptionally special because not only does our fine city turn 150 years old, but Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest also has a milestone birthday. We are 10 this year! That means 10 years of amazing local music discoveries. 10 years of outstanding national and local talent. 10 years of celebrating Fort Collins with the best local music our state has to offer. As we get ready to roll out our 2014 lineup, we hope you find it every bit as wonderful as we do. We are indeed lucky to call Fort Collins home and have such a fine music scene that we can call our own.
