Esme' Patterson Steps into the Spotlight

Here is a new term for you; folk n roll.  It's a little bit folky and a little bit rock n roll.  It's the new sound that has been taking over the airwaves.  Denver has it's own secret weapon in this music revolution, Esme' Patterson.  You may recognize her as a founding member from indie folk darlings Paper Bird, but in the last few years she has stepped out of the shadows of the large outfit and into her own light.  Armed with superb songwriting skills and a silky smooth voice, her music will make you stop and listen.  And people around the country are listening;  The New York Times and World Cafe to name a few.  Which is a good thing because what she has to say is incredibly poignant especially when it comes to women in music.  She gave a TedX talk about her newest album Woman to Woman which dropped in April of this year.  She explains, "I was learning to play a Townes Van Zandt song called "Loretta,"…and I started thinking about how many songs were just a woman’s name, and how these women are frozen in time, and frozen as archetypes, frozen in black and white. And I thought they deserved to be colored in." Her thoughtfulness adds to the little things and ultimately it's the little things we most remember.  Make sure to stop by and give a listen to Esme' Patterson at Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest on Saturday August 16th.  She'll be performing on the Library Park St at 4:30 PM.
