TBT - 12 Cents for Marvin

If I only had my yellow raincoat.... Not going to lie.  For this week's Throwback Thursday, I picked the 12 Cents for Marvin show from 2008 because of the monsoon rain we've experienced the last few days.  That and reading the Coloradoan article that referenced this show.  We were the Friday night kickoff band.  There was a whirlwind of excitement and we were super stoked.  It's that tingle in the air and the electricity that you feel that's building up to something special.

I remember waking up to a grey day.  It was cold and dreary, which is kind of weird for August. (Note - in the photo above, you can see the crowd and some of the band in their winter gear.) We showed up for sound check and although the clouds were hovering, there had still been no actual rain.  We checked in at the green room and heard the explosive boom of thunder.  And then it started.  Not just a drizzle but a full on gush.  As we ate dinner, we just watched the rain drench everything.  The Bohemian Staff were deciding if they were going to cancel when there was a part in the clouds and it cleared up.  They asked if we were ok to keep the show a go and we happily took the stage.  The crowd came out and the party was on.  Maybe halfway through the set, the rain came back with a vengeance.  There was even more than before (if that's even possible).  And surprisingly most of the audience stayed and danced in the downpour.  Our horn section decided that if the crowd was going to dance in the rain, we should probably join them.  It felt like I was in the shower.  There was that much water.  But we all splashed through the puddles and acted like the children we still think we are.  We broke out Yellow Raincoat for the last song, which had everyone going for it.  I think we were all surprised by the crowd and their support through the cold and rainy night, but looking back on it sincerely warms my heart.
