This year's Singer Songwriters Stage is amazing! If you haven't had a chance to look through the list of names just yet, I'm going to suggest that you should do that ASAP. It's quite thrilling to scroll through so much talent. There really is something for everyone, but we understand that sometimes it can be a little overwhelming. Which is why we decided to put together a Singer Songerwriter festival guide for you.
The Veterans - These are the names you will probably recognize. They are the people who have been making music in our local scene and making waves on a national level for quite awhile. You may have seen them at a Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest past or read about them in the paper. Cary Morin, Wendy Woo, and Julie Hoest are all heavy hitters for this category. Cary just keeps getting better with age (meant as the best compliment). He has found his stride as a solo blues artist, winning the 2013 and 2014 Colorado Blues Challenge. Wendy has released 9 albums and a documentary. In her 20+ year career she writes, performs and produces her own music and has accumulated legions of fans along the way. Julie has been performing around the country since the early 1980s. Known for her work in the Mother Folkers, she's put out 3 acclaimed solo albums and influenced a slew of musicians.
The New Comers - You'll notice a couple of young performers in the lineup. They are the next generation who happen to be doing it now. If you want to hear what the future of our music scene sounds like, check out Fort Collins own Mary Sue Thompson and Shannon Fitzsimmons. These 2 ladies have an extraordinary amount of talent as evidenced in their vocal power as well as their writing.
The Wow Factor - Or perhaps the X Factor for Jeff Brinkman. Some of these musicians have perfected their craft and studio skills and crossed over into commercial success. They have a total package with mass appeal and a pop polish. Jeff Brinkman, Megan Burtt, and Jennifer Lane are ready to sing their way into your hearts with their talent and their charm.
Off the Beaten Path - If edgier is your thing, then you are in luck. Sour Boy Bitter Girl, Joe Sampson, and M. Florea will all be at Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest. Their music is raw and brutally honest. It's a little more dirty and a little more dark. They put it all out there and the crowds soak it all up.
Instrumental Centric - Approaching their instrument the way a vocalist finds their voice, Ian Cooke and Arthur Lee Land can truly make their rigs sing. Ian is slightly avant garde while Arthur is more straight forward, but both are virtuosos in their own field. You'll be amazed by what they can do.
The Troubadour - There are still a few of them out there. They tell a story and they pull emotions out of the crowd. Matt Campbell and Danny Shafer are ready to hold the audience captive as they let their music do the talking.
